21,22.Dasaratha   told   Kausalya   that   in   the   night   he   heard   a   sound   that   resembled   an
elephant's   roar   from   the   place   where   animals   come   for   drinking   water.

23.Dasaratha   told   Kausalya   that   he   took   an   arrow   which   was   glowing   and   equal   to   a   snake and   released   it   in   the   direction   of   the   sound   hoping   to   hit   an   elephant.

25,26.Dasaratha   told   Kausalya   that   as   soon   as   the   arrow   fell,   he   heard   a   human   voice   saying why   should   a   weapon   be   used   against   an   ascetic?

27.The   voice   continued   asking   who   has   hit   me   with   an   arrow   in   a   place   where   there   is   no human   presence   when   he   had   come   for   collecting   water.

28.The   person   said   that   one   who   is   non-violent   and   lives   on   the   produce   of   the   forest   like  him, why   is   it   that   death   by   weapon   is   ordained?
