271.  True knowledge cannot come as long as there is the desire to follow the world,the rituals of the scriptures or the demands of the body.

272. The sages who know testify that these three desires are like iron chains that bind us to the world and must therefore be got rid of.

273.  The fragrance of Sandal drives away all other bad smells, so too does the desire for the Real, drive away all other  desires.

274.  Just as the sandalwood fragrance comes forth only through friction in water, so too the desire for the real is submerged in other desires  and must be extracted out of them by getting rid of those desires.

 275.  The desire for the real is enmeshed in the net of other desires.Only a constant desire for the real will remove the other desires until the Atman alone remains in your thoughts, shining  in all   its glory.

276.  Give up every external desire that binds the mind and when this is complete, the Atman will be realized, free from obstacles.

277. This is accomplished  by  resting constantly in   the   Atman, when  the   mind dies   and   desires   cease.

278.  Enhance Sattva   and  Rajas  to kill  Tamas;then enhance sattva to kill   the   rajas and,  when   the sattva   is   purified,   it   dies   of   itself.

279. Do not fear for what will become of your body. That will be sustained by your past karma. Be sure of this, and concentrate patiently on dispelling the ignorance of identifying the non-Self with the Self.

280. Think that you are not the jiva, but the Supreme immortal soul, and this body has come only through desire. Concentrate on dispelling the ignorance of identifying the non-self with the self.
