USE OF THE ASCII KEYBOARD

This description of the ASCII keyboard is intended as a specific lesson to be imparted
to the Visually Handicapped, because mastering the keyboard will provide them the key
to mastering the use of the Computer.

The ASCII Keyboard is a rectangular board carrying around 102 Keys, most of
them of a single uniform size, and a few special keys being larger. Most of the keys generate two characters each, one by pressing the key alone and the other, pressing
the key along with the Shift key. Likewise most of the keys generate different
operational controLs of the computer, either when pressed alone or when pressed
along with the ALT key or the CTRL key or both.

The keys are arranged in six horizontal rows along the width of the keyboard,
and grouped in three blocks from left to right. The left group starts at the left edge
and occupies most of the keyboard area, and may be referred to as the Alpha-Numeric-cum-Function Block
The six rows from left to right in this block generate characters or operations as follows : ROW 1 : ESC - F1 - F2 - F3 - F4 - F5 - F6 - F7 - F8 - F9 - F10 - F11 - F12
ROW 2 : `/~ - 1/! - 2/@ - 3/# - 4/$ - 5/% - 6/^ - 7/& - 8/* - 9/( - 0/) - -/_ - =/+ BS

ROW 6 : CTL - WIN - ALT - SPC------------------------------SPC - ALT - WIN - CTL

The Middle Group generally has 13 keys that perform control operations and are
spread over the 6 rows as follows :
ROW 1 : PRINT SCRN - SCROLL LOCK - PAUSE/BREAK
ROW 2 : INSERT - HOME - PAGE UP
ROW 3 : DELETE - END - PAGE DOWN
ROW 4 : --------------------------------------- (no key)

ROW 6 : LEFT ARROW - DOWN ARROW - RIGHT ARROW

The Right Group is called the Numeric keypad, and generally has 17 keys that
provide numeric symbols and functions, with a NUMLOCK key alternating between
these and a duplicate set of Control functions. These keys are positioned on the 6
rows as follows :
ROW 1 : --------------------------------------- (no key)
ROW 2 : NUMLOCK        -      / (divide)             -     * (multiply)       -    - (minus)
