å¨é÷áȨêùª     Breaking the Bounds of Modesty

åèÑêÐêèȪ ô©ÈªêÐê æê²

æèëæР æú¨òÐò¨  the axe of passionate love
ãéìæÐÆ몠  will break
å¨é÷öäªÄ몠  mental resolve (reserve)
åèÑêÐêèȪ   the bolt of modesty
ô©ÈªêÐê   having secured
æê²  door

The axe of passionate love will simply break the door
of mental resolve which has modesty for a bolt (1251).

öäøäªî÷è   that one known as
æúª ¬äª×   without mercy
öäª â墪òêÐéê   my mind
áèëêÐÊ몠  even at the dead of night
ÍÓëª âêèȨùª   has for its occupation

Passion is heartless, because even at midnight it
rules over (the heart and) the mind (1252).

ëé÷çªîç䪠  try to conceal

æèëêÐéê   my infatuation

Æ÷¨çªµ   warning
¬äª÷¨   without
Êëªëùªîçèùª   like a sneeze
îêèäª÷¨  ô¨Ìëª  will be out

Even when I try to hide my passion, yet like a sneeze it breaks out without warning (1253).

å¨é÷   ability to contain (my feelings of love)
ãéìîá䪠  I have
öäªîç䪠  I thought
ëäª  alas!
áèîäè   however I
öäª æèë몠  my passion
ëé÷¬÷åÐÊ   without being concealed
ëäª× çÌ몠  has come into the open

I thought I was a picture of modesty, but now my passion has broken out into the open (1254).

æèëîåè᪠  love sickness
ã÷ª÷èõР  whoever has been struck by
í÷¨ôÊ   to know
øäª×   one
íäª×   not possible


Those afflicted with love sickness do not know the
dignity of restraint in going after the beloved
who has deserted them (1255).

ö÷ª×öäªéä ã÷ª÷ ÊáõÐ ?

âò÷ª÷ôõР  one who has forsaken
ç¨äª   following
îò÷ùª   reunion (passion)
îôúªï   desiring
íó¨êÐÊ   is indeed great
íîõè   alas!
ö÷ª×   of what nature?
öäªéä   me
ã÷ª÷   having overtaken
ÊáõÐ   suffering (love sickness)

What sort of passion is this that induces me to
follow the very one who has deserted me ? (1256)

åèúª   sense of modesty
öä øäªî÷è   the one known as
í÷¨áù몠  we will not know
æèëêÐêèùª   due to love
îçú¨áèõР  the beloved
âçìªç   what we desire
âòá¨äª   if he does
 


When the lover reciprocates your passion, there is
no place for restraint (1257).

æóªô䪠  the deceitful one
çú¨âëèȨ   enticing words
íäªî÷è   are they not indeed ?

âçúªéë   femininity
ãéìæÐÆ몠  breaking
çéì  force (weapon)

It is the enticing words of this fraudulent man that
breaks the fortress of my womanhood (1258).

âòäªî÷䪠  I went away (to some other place)
µùªù¨îä䪠  I embraced (him)
â墪ò몠  my mind (upon his arrival)
æùêÐêùª  ã×ôÊ  becoming united
æúªÌ   realising

I thought I would feign anger and turn away, but my heart was already with him at the prospect of the embrace (1259).

Ãï  quarrel (earlier)

Rejection of reconciliation is not for those whose hearts melt like butter in the fire (1260).
