îôúªìèçª âçèÕÓëª íÊ

ëéäô¨éÈôèõР  pleasing their wives (those)
ëèúª çá䪠  worthwhile objectives
öáªêèõР  will not achieve
ô¨éä ô¨éÈôèõР  those who want to acquire wealth
îôúªìè窠 âçèÕÓëª   the thing to be avoided
íÊ   that (alone)


Men who follow their wives' wishes will not achieve
worthwhile objectives or wealth (901).

îçúèÊ âçúªô¨éÈôèäª ÍæÐæëª âçõ¨áîêèõÐ 902
åèúèæ åèÑêÐ êÕëª

îçúèÊ   without preserving (manly duties)
âçúªô¨éÈôè䪠  one who is infatuated with his wife
ÍæÐæ몠  wealth
âçõ¨áÊ  ØõÐ  great
åèúèæ   matter of shame
åèÑêР êÕëª  will result in shame and contempt


The man who, in his infatuation for his wife,forgets his manly duties, will earn shame and contempt (902).  

¬ùªùèóªæúª êèȪåÐê ¬áùªç¨äªéë ö¢ª¢èäª×ëª 903
åùªùèÕóª åèÑêÐ êÕëª  

¬ùªùèóªæúª   towards one's wife
êèȪåÐê   subservient
¬áùªµ   manly nature
¬äªéë   without
ö¢ª¢èäª×몠  always
åùªùèÕóª   among the wise
åèÑêР êÕëª  will beget contempt

The man who lives in fear of his wife will always live
in the contempt of his fellowmen (903).

ô¨éäáèúªéë ô©×öáªêùª ¬äª×

ëéäáèéó   his wife

There is no salvation for the man who lives under
his wife's control, and even his good acts will
not win praise (904).  

¬ùªùèéó í¢ªàôèäª í¢ªàëª ë÷ª× ö¢ª¢èäª×ëª 905
åùªùèõÐæÐÆ åùªù âòáùª

¬ùªùèéó   one's wife
í¢ªàôè䪠  afraid of
í¢ªà몠  will hesitate
ë÷ª×   other
ö¢ª¢èäª×몠  always
åùªùèõÐæÐÆ   to good people
åùªù   do good
âòáùª   turn
 
A man who fears his wife will never be able to do
good to others (905).  

¬éëáèõ¨äª ôèȨÄëª çèïùîõ ¬ùªùèóª 906
íéëáèõÐîêèóª í¢ªà çôõÐ
 
¬éëáèõ¨äª   a godly life
ôèȨÄ몠  even if he lives
çèÌ ¬ùõР  will not earn respect
Ö   O!
¬ùªùèóª   one's wife
íéëÍõÐîêèóª   the slender shoulders of (frail looking)
í¢ªà çôõР  one who is afraid of


A man who fears the slender shoulders of his wife
will never earn  the respect of others, even if he
lives a godly life (906).

âçúªîúôùª âòáªâêèÇÆëª Íúªéëá¨äª åèÑéìçª 907
âçúªîú âçÕéë ãéìêÐÊ

âçúª   wife's
Öôùª   orders
âòáªÊ  øÇÆëª  given to carrying out
Íúªéëá¨äª   more than his manliness
åèúª  ãéì  with modesty
âçúªîú   her femininity
âçÕéë  ãéìêÐÊ   is superior

Modesty in a woman is to be respected more than
subservience of a man to his wife (907).  

åìªìèõÐ Æé÷ËïáèõÐ åäª÷è÷ª÷èõÐ åäªÄêùèóª 908
âçìªìè§ªÆ øÇÆ çôõÐ

åìªìèõР  one's friends
Æé÷ËïáèõР  will not alleviate sufferings
åäª×   the good
Í÷ª÷èõР  will not do
åùª Åêùèóª   one's wife
âçìªÌ  ͧªÆ  ruled by
øÇÆçôõР  behaving thus
 
Men who are ruled by their wives will never be able
to  help friends nor be of service to others (908).

í÷ô¨éä±ëª Íäª÷ âçèÕÓëª ç¨÷ô¨éä±ëª 909
âçúªîúôùª âòáªôèõÐæúª ¬ùª

í÷ô¨éä±ëª   righteous acts
Íäª÷ âçèÕÓ몠  great acts of charity
ç¨÷ ô¨éä±ëª   other acts of pleasure
âçúª  Öôùª  the orders of one's wife
âòáªôèõÐæúª   who is amenable to
¬ùª   is not (there)
 
Neither virtue, wealth nor pleasure will accrue to
one who only serves his wife (909).

öúªîòõÐåÐê â墪òêÐÊ ¬ìÄéìáèõÐæÐÆ ö¢ª¢èäª×ëª 910
âçúªîòõÐåÐêèëª îçéêéë ¬ùª

öúªîòõÐåÐê   having the capacity to analyse
â墪òêÐÊ   the resolute nature of
¬ìäª ãéìáèõÐæÐÆ   and those with resources
ö¢ª¢èäª×몠  always
âçúªîòõÐåÐÊ  Íëª  of subservience to one's wife
îçéêéë   folly
¬ùª   will not occur

Men who are resolute in the pursuit of virtue and wealth  will never succumb to the folly of subservience to their wives (910).
