îôúªì÷ªæ   should avoid
âôäª÷¨ïÄ몠  even though successful in
Îê¨éä   gambling
âôäª÷­ã몠  the stakes won at gaming
­úªïùª   hook
âçè䪠  the iron (with bait on)
ë©äªô¨Ç§ªæ¨   a fish swallowing the bait
í÷ª×   is like
 
Even a winner should avoid gambling, because winning
a stake is like a fish swallowing the bait (931).

ÎêõÐæÐÆ몠  the gamblers
ãúªìè몠 âæèùª  will there arise
åäª× öáªê¨   a state of happiness
ôèȪôÊ  ØõÐ Í×  a way of life

Can there be a life of virtue and happiness to one
who wagers one and hopes for a hundred ? (932)

îçèøáªçª µ÷îë çÌëª

ãÕóª   dice
Íáëª   gain
ØôèÊ Ô÷¨äª   constantly speaking about (and continuing betting)
âçèÕóª   wealth
Íáëª   acquiring
îçè᪠  lost
µ÷îë çÌ몠  will settle with his enemies

He who gets addicted to the dice will soon lose all his wealth to his enemies (933).

ô×éë êÕôâêèäª× ¬ùª

ò¨×éë   petty things
çù  many
âòáªÊ   having done
ò©õÐ íȨæÐÆ몠  one that results in loss of repute
Îê¨äª   of gambling
ô×éë   poverty
êÕôÊ   which causes
øäª×   - another (ike)
¬ùª  is not there

As a cause for suffering and loss of repute, nothing is as potent as gambling (934).  


æô×ëª æÈæËëª éæ±ëª êÕæÐæ¨ 935
¬ô÷¨áèõÐ ¬ùªùèæ¨ áèõÐ

æô×몠  gambling
æÈæË몠  the gambling den
éæ±ëª   skilful at gambling
êÕæÐ樠  considering great
¬ô÷¨áèõР  those who do not abandon them
¬ùª Í樠 áèõÐ  will be reduced to penury

Those frequenting the gambling den and getting addicted, will finally come to grief despite all
their skills (935).

íæìèõèõÐ íùªùùª ãÈçªçõÐÎ âêäªÄëª 936
Ëæïáèäª ßìçªçìª ìèõÐ

íæÌ ÍõèõР  will not live happily in this world
íùªùùª  ãÈçªçõÐ  will not be happy in the other world
ÎÊ öäªÄ몠  the one known as gambling
Ëæïáè䪠  by the inauspicious devil
ßìçªç쪠 ìèõÐ  will be covered

Those who are blinded by an insatiable addiction to gambling will be ruined here and the hereafter (936).

æÈæêÐÊæÐ æèéù µæ¨äª

çÈæ¨á   earlier acqusitions
âòùªôË몠  wealth
çúªµëª   repute
âæÌæÐÆ몠  will come to naught
æÈæêÐÊ   in the gaming den
æèéù   one's time
µæ¨äª   if it is spent

When time (that should be used in good work), is spent in the gambling den, it will be the end of one's wealth and repute (937).

íùªùùª ãÈçªç¨æÐÆëª ÎÊ
 
âçèÕóªâæÌêÐÊ   destroying wealth
âçèáªîëùª  âæèó©¬  making one resort to falsehood
íÕóªâæÌêÐÊ   destroying grace
íùªùùª   suffering
ãÈçªç¨æÐÆ몠  will bring about
ÎÊ  gambling

Gambling will destroy one's wealth and compassion and
make one take to falsehood (938).

ãéì âòùªôëª Ãúª øó¨ æùªô¨ öäª× ÉåÐÊëª
íéìáèôèëª Íáëª âæèó¨äª

æùªô¨   learning
öäª× ÉåÐÊ몠  these five known as
íéìáèôè몠  will not stay
Íáëª   gambling
âæèó¨äª   if resorted to

Gambling will lead to the fivefold loss of wealth, repute, learning, food and clothing (939).  


¬ÈêÐâêè®ãëª æèêù¨æÐÆëª Îîêîçèùª Êäªçëª 940
ãÈêÐâêè®ãëª æèê÷ª× ãá¨õÐ

¬ÈêÐâêè®ã몠  even after losing
æèêù¨æÐÆ몠  attachment to
Îîêîçèùª   like gambling
Êäªç몠  suffering
ãÈêÐâêè®ã몠  when subjected to
æèê÷ª×   will create craving
ãá¨õÐ   to life

The attachment to gambling inspite of losses, is like the attachment to life inspite of suffering (940).
