One should
meditate upon the Elements
that compose the universe,
the earth
and the heaven, namely, the
earth, the intermediate space between
the four main and the
intervening directions, on fire, air,
sun, moon,
stars, water, herbs, trees, ether, and
one's body. After that one
should meditate on one's
body, on the five
vital energies, viz Prana, Vyana,
Apana, Udana and Samana; on
the skin, flesh, muscle, bone,
marrow, and organs of sight,
hearing, thinking, speech and touch.
The seer who has realised
these facts by intuition, has
declared that the whole
universe is based on
a fivefold principle and that
every set of five components
must be recognized as
identical with every other such
set of components.

One should
contemplate thus : Om is
Brahman, and all the universe,
perceived or imagined is Om.
The entire hierarchy of priests
at the sacrifice initiate their
respective roles by or responding
with reciting 'Om', starting with the
Adhvaryu or the supervising priest, the
Udgatr who chants the hymns
of the Sama Veda, the Hotr
priests who recite the Rig
Veda, and finally the Brahmana
who
prays to attain
Brahman. Thus by performace in unison alone
is Brahman attained.

oblations into the Fire
daily, morning and evening
hospitality; propagation
of the race; procreation
at the ordained time, and
performing social duties ,
all these disciplines should be
practised along with the daily
study and teaching
of the Vedas.
The sage Rathitara
held that truthfulness alone
would suffice ;
Paurusishti thought
that devout austerity alone
was enough; Naka of
the lineage of Mudgala stressed that
the study and imparting
of the Vedas alone constituted
Tapas or penance.

Having instructed
the disciple on the Veda
the preceptor advises him
to speak the truth; follow
the prescribed duties ;
not neglect careful recitation of
scriptures; offer to the
preceptor the gift liked by
him; ensure that the line
of his race is not
broken; avoid being careless
about what is proper and
good; be not negligent ;
never be indifferent to the
study and imparting of the
Veda ; be mindful of
offerings to the gods
and manes; treat
your mother and father
as gods ; ensure that the
preceptor receives honour;
and that guests receive hospitality
like gods. Those acts
that are irreproachable are
to be performed and not
those that are
to the contrary.
The mind must be set
only on the virtuous
actions and never on
the contrary. Superiors must be extended
all hospitality
and courtesy.

who are falsely accused
of wrong doing conduct yourself

the command, the advice;
the secret instruction of
the Vedas. One must conduct
oneself in life in this
manner. Verily, having
understood this, one must
always act in the
way taught above and never
deviate from it.
